Reimagining Touchstones

Over his long career, Burton Morris has reimagined cultural icons and artifacts, challenging the way we view these touchstones in our modern lives. Each work distills a broader concept to its simplest form, effectively conveying a clear message. Morris’s fascination with symbols and icons began in his childhood during the '60s, a formative period for Pop Art, as he emulated comic book heroes through his drawings. His distinctive style is evident in the use of bold colors and dynamic hash marks that infuse energy into each creation.

comic book heroes

The vibrant world of comic books captivated Burton’s imagination as a child. It served as a gateway to his lifelong love for pop art. The bold colors and dynamic storytelling continue to inspire his work—exemplified in this collection of paintings and prints. Everyone wants to be a comic book hero, right?

PORTRAITS

In his ongoing series titled “Nightstand Portraits”, Morris has created a series of artworks which are based upon an individual’s bedside nightstand. Each painting is composed of personal objects and ideas that represent the subject. “Nightstands are intimate reflections of who you are” says Morris.

Following in the footsteps of Pop Artist Andy Warhol, Morris targets iconic celebrities, industrialists, fashion designers, actors, athletes, politicians, etc. The nightstand portrait captures the essence of the individual and allows the viewer to get an inside look at the person in a unique way.

INTERIORS

The Artist has explored a series of Interior paintings in homage to one of the great pop art masters, Roy Lichtenstein. Morris has painted various home and museum Interiors which showcase his own art within an artistic setting. Always intrigued by architectural design and space, he tries to create atmospheres that reflect his energetic style and iconography.
